Workshops and Community Events
Restorative sequences for the stiffness, compression, and fatigue that follow travel. Help your body reset and return to balance after being displaced.
B.K.S. Iyengar taught that we must focus on where we extend from, not where we reach to. Study this fundamental principle across standing poses, forward extensions, and backbends. Learn how shifting your attention from the destination to the source transforms the quality and safety of every asana. This understanding changes everything.
Strengthen and bring consciousness to the posterior muscles - the back of the body that supports upright posture and pain-free movement but often remains unconscious until something hurts.
Standing asanas to strengthen the legs and stabilize the pelvis—building the foundation that makes backbending sustainable and safe. Study the relationship between lower body stability and spinal extension.

What we'll explore
Each session is built around one of three short yoga sutras — the guiding principles behind every posture we practice. You've already felt them in class. This weekend we slow down and look at them together.
Sthira Sukham Asanam — The posture should be steady and spacious. Not just held, but inhabited. Stable enough to stay, open enough to breathe.
Prayatna Shaithilya Ananta Samapattibhyam — Through the relaxation of effort and absorption in the infinite, posture is refined. We stop muscling through and begin to listen. The body settles when the mind does.
Tato Dvandva Anabhighatah — From that steadiness, we are no longer disturbed by the pairs of opposites. Heat and cold, effort and ease, a good practice day and a hard one — they lose their grip on us.
For longtime IYS students your classes have been adding up!

A chair is a very user-friendly and easily available prop. It enables us to access various asanas and, more importantly, allows us to stay longer in a given asana so that we have the opportunity to observe our breath and mind, and how the body, breath, and mind respond to each other.
In this series, we will mainly try standing and twisting asanas with the help of the chair. All of this will be done in the light of the breath so that both our practice and our mind become more illuminated.

8:00–9:15 AM | Online from your home or In - Studio (Class will be live-streamed into IYS) | 6 Weeks | $120
We’re honored to welcome Pranati Pratap, senior teacher from Pune, India, for another six-week online series.
From Pranati:
Simple and accessible asanas are the best gateway to understanding how the breath works in asanas and pranayama. Different poses allow us to observe the breath from multiple angles and reveal the wide-ranging potential of breath in yoga.
In this 6-week series (Thursdays, Jan 15–Feb 19, 8–9:15 AM), Pranati will teach from her home in India, and Iyengar Yoga Source will live-stream the classes. Students can attend in the studio using props or join from home, exploring standing, twisting, and seated poses to deepen awareness of the connection between body, breath, and mind.
Ability is not a concern — the focus is on learning, observing, and experiencing. Can’t attend live? Recordings will be available for 7 days, so you can repeat the practice or catch up at your own pace.
““I feel so grateful to have practiced with such a skilled and authentic teacher from India. Working with Pranati has enriched my practice, my mind, and my life in ways I hadn’t anticipated — planting seeds for future growth. Her teaching reminds us that everything can be a prop, breath is always a tool, and even small shifts in perspective create profound change. Learning from someone who truly knows the practice has deepened my awareness, focus, and sense of calm. Iyengar Yoga Source is a beautiful gem, offering authentic yoga that goes far beyond the physical practice.” ”
Release tension and build strength in your upper back and shoulders. We'll practice targeted postures and props to improve posture, increase range of motion, and support healthy spine mobility.
